3 Weeks

I realize it's kind of odd to do a 3 week post, but we got his stats at about that time and won't be getting more for another month.

Weight: 8 lbs 8 oz. 36th percentile
Length: 22 inches 83rd percentile

We have a long, skinny boy on our hands! Although he is still small in the weight department, he has grown so much!  The doctor was absolutely blown away since he gained nearly two pounds since his last appointment.  They were hoping he was up to his birth weight (6 lbs 15 oz), but he passed that by a lot!  Guess he is eating nothing but pure cream :) I think we are going to have a little chunker.  He is even starting to get a little double chin.

A few things at this stage:
  • I feel like he is getting SO big. Especially in the last few weeks. He is finally graduating from newborn to size 1 diapers and out of his newborn clothes.  By the looks of it, I don't think he is going to be in those 0-3 month clothes for long... which is sad because I love so many of the clothes I bought him!
  • Sleep schedule has changed... and not in a good way :( He usually sleeps from about 11-2 and then 3-5 and then is up every hour after that. He is an early bird and definitely did NOT get that from me. I am so tired in the mornings. I feel like I spend HOURS trying to get him back to sleep so I can get more sleep. And that usually is about 20 minutes in 5 minute increments. Isn't the sleeping supposed to get better and not worse? My sister recommended I try the book The Baby Whisperer... anyone try that?
  • Loves to fight sleep. This drives me CRAZY! He will finally be asleep but then jolts his entire body to wake himself up. Not like the flailing arms newborns do, he like kicks his legs consciously against anything he can so he will wake up.  He goes from dead asleep to WIDE AWAKE in about .5 seconds flat.
  • Feels like he constantly needs to be eating. Like yesterday when he was apparently starving to death and he literally ate on and off from 5-9:30 pm. I know he is getting PLENTY of food (hello... almost 2 lbs in 2 weeks!) I think he just might be going through a growth spurt or something.
  • He is so strong! Sometimes when he gets mad, he will literally climb me. The other day, he stuck out his legs when he was upright on my shoulder and stuck out his bum... it was like he was doing a yoga pose. It's only a matter of time until he rolls over. He has come close a few times.  He has one strong grip. I have learned the hard way when he is fussy and gets a death grip on my hair. I am sure it is comical to watch as I am trapped and can't help him and he is crying because he needs me to help him. Silly boy.  He is also so active. He is always kicking his legs and waving his arms around.  It is hard to capture any picture of him holding still (as evident by the pics below)
  • He has a total receding hair line (see pic directly below). He is completely bald on top, the middle of his hair is thinning and he has thick hair on the bottom. I need to buzz it, but probably by the time I actually get the clippers to do it, it will correct itself.
  • I am pretty sure I got my first real smile just this morning. He wasn't sleeping and he was looking at me... so I am pretty confident it was real. When I told Jordan, he jokingly asked if it melted my heart. In all seriousness, it did! It's the cutest little crooked smile I have ever seen!
  • He has the most precious full lips. I can't get enough of them.
  • STILL has his little scab on his head from the vacuum. I would have thought it would have disappeared a long time ago!
  • I can't decide who he looks like. When he is sleeping, he looks exactly like Jordan, but then when he is awake, I think he looks like members of my family. I am sure it is too early to tell and as the months go by, it will become more clear.
  • Nicknames include: Sweet boy, honey bee, honey boy, baby, sweetie, baby O. I think I could count on one hand the times I have called him Owen. I have no idea where the honey bee name came from. I think it started with honey, then honey boy, then honey bee.

1- emmy has that blue heart binkie.
2- i remember, and not with fondness, that period where i spent literally all evening every evening nursing. i felt so free when it was finally over!
3- i love the receding hairline.
4- i am still mad that i didn't go see you.

i forgot i was going to say one more thing.

5- it took us a while to start calling emmy by her name too. we just called her baby for a while. i think it is weird to just assign them a name and start calling them that. i always felt that way about pets and stuff too. takes a while to get used to.

that is all.

The Baby Whisperer Solves All of Your Problems is a FABULOUS book. It taught me how to teach my kids to sleep and be on a schedule. WAY better than Baby Wise or Healthy Sleep, Happy Baby.

Ah it is so fun to read your posts! He is wonderful. Reading about Owen's milestones reminds me of Des'. I feel like it was forever ago but it was just a few months. Oh and the peeing when his diaper comes off will stop. I was worried it never would but I haven't been peed on for at least 4 months.

It was weird when you pointed out that we were the only non-family pic. Just when I thought we were finally starting to blend, you have to rub it in our faces. We get it, we'll never be Gildeas.
