5 Months!

Man, it was hard to get good pictures this month! Owen is a mover and a shaker, so it seems like every single picture has a little bit of a blurry spot.

Some things about Owen:
  • Nicknames: Buggie, Little Bug, Owie, Baby O, Bubbaloo, Munchkin
  • Has definitely discovered his feet.  He LOVES to hold them and more recently, suck on them.
  • Has a natural mohawk. I think I am going to cut it because it is just a little circle on his head that has loooong hair. The rest of it is really short. So it's either sticking straight up or gelled all funky.
  • FINALLY a little closer to getting on a set sleep schedule. It took a lot of work!  After 3 straight days of screaming for 1+ hours without success (I ended up just getting him out) I was about ready to give up.  Then the next day, I put him in and he fell right to sleep!  We started with naps and then worked our way up to night sleeping.  I was really nervous to put him to bed awake for the night, but like a champ, he went right to sleep.  He still wakes up a little bit in the night.  Unfortunately he is a little unreasonable in the middle of the night and a binky will not suffice!  If it is before 3 am, I try to make him cry himself to sleep, but sometimes it is just easier to feed him and he will sleep until the morning. The last few nights he has done AWESOME, so I am hopeful we are getting close! (I probably just jinxed myself-). ...(I wrote this a few days ago, and yep... I jinxed myself. The next night he was up SIX times.  I don't really know what to do since he will go to sleep completely on his own, but still wakes up?)
  • Along with sleeping better, he is so much happier! It makes my days a lot more pleasant.
  • Has discovered spitting. Right now, it is really cute but I am sure that isn't going to last very long :)
  • He has been able to stick his tongue out of his mouth, so now I am reconsidering clipping his tongue next month.
  • Soooo close to sitting up. I can tell he wants to so bad. When he is laying down, he tries to lift his head up to sit up. However, he can't quite hold himself up. He either arches his back or leans too far forward.
  • Rolls and rolls and rolls.  I lay a quilt down for him to play on, but he doesn't last long on it. He is also all over his crib.  I put him in facing one way and he usually ends up on the opposite end, facing the opposite direction and wedged in the corner.
  • Suddenly loves his binky again. It was like one day he just couldn't get enough of it.  It has definitely helped with sleeping!
  • SO so so so active. Changing his diaper has become a huge struggle since he is already trying to roll over and get away! I thought I had a few more months. Feeding him is also a challenge. He always has his arm whacking up and down. And when he eats his rice cereal, I feel like I need to eat a bib too.  He whacks it everywhere!
  • Even though he is really active, he isn't very loud.  He will make sounds, but he isn't a squawker.
  • Still in 3-6 month clothes and size 2 diapers

See that little tuft of hair? No idea what to do with it.

Toe sucker

Angel baby

Sweet little puppy eyes

Seriously has an obsession with his feet. And pushing against anything he touches.

Next to his feet, his next obsession is his fingers

Lounging

Many faces

Pretty sure this is how he ends up from one end of his crib to the other.

Solid Eating Baby

I had really hoped to wait until 6 months to start Owen on solids - not for any specific reason.  I just didn't want to rush things. I almost started at about 4 months because I thought that would help him sleep better, but I waited.  At 5 months, it just felt like it was the right time, so on November 20 we started on rice cereal!

Like most babies, I think a lot of it ended up on his face, on the chair, on his bibs, etc.  But for the most part, I think he enjoyed it!  In fact, he kept lunging over further and further to try to get to the spoon.

He still kind of slurps and sucks the cereal off the spoon, but each night he gets a little bit better.

And of course, he wanted to assist.

I have to admit, I was pretty sad this night. I love all of the new things that he can do, but that means he has to grow up which I am not so sure I am ready for :(

A Day in the Life of Owen... at 4 months

One of the bloggers that I follow periodically does these posts where she documents every single thing she does in her day.  I decided to copy her and documented my whole day on November 1. I actually debated posting it because our days are SO much different than this now thanks to sleep training.  But this is how our life was back then and it took A LOT of time to take all of these pictures!  Plus, it will be fun to look back and compare in a few months.  It was hard to find a day that summed up our life, but I think it was as close to accurate as we could get!  Also, please don't cringe at some of these blurry photos. When you have to hurry and take pictures of everything, there isn't a lot of time for multiple retakes!

8:00 Owen wakes up. I bring him into my bed with me so I can wake up slowly and Owen can eat.

8:15 Jordan goes to work

9:00 Owen is back to sleep. I put him back into his crib.

9-10:50 am: I work, start some laundry, shower, etc.

10:50 O wakes up for the day!  I can't believe he slept that long... And I realize I forgot to change his diaper which means he has soaked through his jammies.  Oops!

11:00 am: After changing his diaper and washing him down, we decide what to wear.  For some reason, O LOVES to look at his closet. He's just super into fashion, I guess.

11:05 am: All dressed! And looking mighty cute, I might add.  Hurry up mom, I'm so hungry I am eating everything in sight! (including my hands, my mom's face, my mom's fingers, etc)

11:06 am: Time to eat!

11:11 am: Ok, he's done... for now anyway. And of course, he wants to hang out upside down for a few minutes.

11:14 am: Back to eating! (with a few more bat sessions in between...)  I catch a little bit of an old episode of Grey's Anatomy

11:20 And he quickly became bored with eating, so I hold him for a few minutes.

11:28: I set him on my bed to play with a toy while I finish my makeup

11:40: The boy is fussy, so we play a little. On and off play with mom and toy until...

12:00: Now he's serious and wants to eat.

12:23: Back to sleep!

While he is sleeping, I do some chores around the house (start a load of laundry and fold an old load of laundry), get dressed, eat lunch

1:25 Owen wakes up... a little cranky, but then happy!  Change his diaper.

1:33 Owen loves to look at himself in the mirror, so we stand there for a few minutes to let him smile at himself (sorry for the view of the toilet...)

1:51 off to run errands!

2:10 Arrive at Costco and it is a blustery day! Definitely need that cover

2:35 Finish up at Costco, pack up the car and head over to...

2:43: Walmart! After the cover was on, he found it to suck on

3:00: O grew sick of his carseat pretty quickly, so I carried him around the store for the rest of our shopping trip

3:28: After the cash register in the store broke, it took us FOREVER to check out. By then, O was hungry again, so I fed him in the back of the car while I looked on my phone.

3:38: Bat time again.

3:40: More playing in the car

3:45: Back into the car to finally head home! (The binky clearly didn't last long since he is trying to sneak a finger in there).

3:55: Arrive home and realize that Owen fell asleep which means that I can actually carry up all of the groceries... instead of just the refrigerated ones like I had planned (leaving the rest for Jordan to get later).

4:07: 6 trips later, I am done carrying up the groceries up and down those stairs!

4:10: Put Owen to sleep in his room. Meanwhile, I put away the groceries, rotate some laundry and just as I am about to relax...

4:35: Owen wakes up!  Change his diaper.  He's a little fussy, so I feed him a little more and he is as happy as a clam again.

4:50:  Put Owen down to play with a few toys so I can be on the computer/do a few things around the house for a few minutes

5:10: Owen was too bored of playing, so I pick him up and he plays on my lap/watches TV with me

5:27 Dad comes home!

6:00 I start to make dinner - copycat Cafe Rio Salads.  Dad plays with Owen, gives him a diaper change and tries to keep him entertained.

6:40: Time to sit down to eat. Unfortunately, Owen is fussy, so I have to feed him first.  He's mildly interested in eating and more interested in crying.

6:55: Since he is just crying, I set him on my lap and stuff my face as fast as I can so I can "enjoy" my food while it is still good.

7:00: Still fussy, so I guess we should try eating again. I am crossing my fingers that he falls asleep!

7:10: Not interested in eating. Not interested in sleeping. Still just interested in crying. I suspect he has been teething, so I put a little orajel on his gums. He HATES this stuff, so he makes a sour face and tries to spit it out.

7:20: Enough of the crying! I pass him onto dad who tries swinging him around in the carseat/holding him for a few minutes to try to get him to sleep.

7:40: Unfortunately that didn't work, so it's bath time instead!

8:00: Finish up in the bath and get into jammies

8:10: Time to eat!

8:30: Finally asleep!

After Owen goes to sleep, I make some green smoothies to freeze and some banana bread muffins.

10:35: BED TIME! (although I am pretty sure Owen woke up at about 10:45 as I was drifting off to sleep...)
