Baby Blues

I have a feeling these blue eyes aren't here to stay (I have blue, Jordan has brown).  I WISH they would stick around. I love me a blue eyed baby. Guess I better enjoy/document them while I can.

3 Months

I can't believe another month has already passed by! Owen has officially moved out of his 0-3 month clothes, so sadly, I had to pack all of those cute little clothes up. Imagine my surprise when I went to look at the clothes I have for 3-6 months and realized that I had about 4 things! Guess it was time to go shopping...

I am glad we don't have to deal with shots this month. After I posted his 2 month post where I said he was sleeping ALL day, his sleeping habits completely changed. He went from sleeping about 6 hours at a time to being up EVERY.SINGLE. HOUR.  He has never slept so horrible than the few days after those shots and he STILL isn't back to where he once was. It's hard to take major steps back!  I guess we will still love him lots anyway...

A few things about Owen this past month:
  • Nicknames: Buggie, Butterball, Little Boy
  • Sleeps from about 9 pm til 3 or 4 (or sometimes 1 or 2). Then he wakes up every 1.5-2 hours after that.  He comes into our bed at about 7 and then we both "sleep" (very lightly) until about 9-10. Which seems like a lot, but I am still only getting like 7 hours of very broken up sleep!
  • He has started this awful habit of being very restless when I set him down in the middle of the night.  I could be done feeding him within 15 minutes, but even if I sit there and hold him for a few minutes after he is done (and is sleeping), he often wakes up after I am back in bed so I am sometimes up for over an hour. In the middle of the night, he will really only go back to sleep nursing,  so it's back to square one and I have to start the process allllll over again.
  • His smiles are MUCH more frequent now. He is still usually the happiest in the morning and fussiest at night, but I am pretty sure that is typical. We both love getting him from his crib in the morning because he is SO excited to see us and gives us BIG smiles.
  • He started laughing! (see video below). He has only done it a handful of times, but it is the cutest thing.  The other day, he just got this laugh attack over nothing! I can't wait until this is a lot more frequent.
  • Each morning (since he was a baby), I would put him up to the mirror. At first he just liked looking at the decorative edges of the mirror (typical), then he focused in on me and now he looks at himself.  There have been a few times when I have put him up to it while he is fussing and he can't look at himself while crying. He will cry, make eye contact with himself and then stop crying, try to start fussing, but just can't do it. It's hilarious.
  • He's starting to chunk up a lot!  And he is still really tall. Everyone who sees him usually comments on how long he is.
  • Blows lots and lots of bubbles and drools a ton.
  • Another thing I could do without is he has started is arching his back!  I can't stand it!  I used to be able to just leave him sitting in his carseat unbuckled while I cooked dinner/showered/cleaned, but now he just arches his back trying to get out.  He also often does it when he is eating.
  • He is still just as active and wiggly as ever!  He's almost too strong for his own good.  If his foot catches something he can push against, he takes full advantage!  He also has a grip like no other. He gets a hold of my hair and WILL NOT let go.  Between losing my hair from hormonal changes to him pulling it out, I am lucky to have any left!
  • He LOVES his fist. It's always in his mouth. In fact, he loves it so much, he will sometimes stop eating so he can suck on his fist.  He loves chewing on two fingers at a time as well which usually results in him gagging himself. Lovely!
  • He still gurgles a ton.  It's not so much of a coo sound, but more like a Q sound.  Sometimes if I whisper to him, he whisper coo's back.
  • Still only sorta takes the binki. He will take it in the car or sometimes when I am holding him, but that's about it! He is also learning to really spit it out. He can launch that thing pretty far sometimes.
  • He is so camera shy! He can be making the cutest faces/sounds, but the second I pull out my camera or my phone, he's blank.
yawn.

Don't be fooled - he isn't sitting up. He's just in the process of tipping over which is why this photo turned out blurry. I quickly rescued him before he knocked his face into the arm of the chair.

Smiley baby

Could he be pouting out his lips anymore?

Stare down.

Fingers in the mouth. Always.

A profile shot. Even if it is a furrowed one (and blurry)

We realize it isn't all butterflies and rainbows over here. So here's a pouty face for good measure.

Loooong boy

In his big boy bed

Still getting used to the bumbo. He likes sitting in it for about 5-10 minutes. Then I think his neck gets too tired and it sometimes gets stuck looking up. His new thing is also leaning all the way to the side (from the back arching), so he gets frustrated when he gets stuck like that too.

Still a stomach sleeper at naptime and swaddled at night

Cool dude.

He started laughing over nothing

Proof that he is always moving

2 months!

I love this little boy more than I thought I could. Sometimes we will just stare at each other  and I feel like my heart is going to explode. I can't believe it has already been two months since our little boy joined us! I am about two weeks late on this post because we just had his 2 month appointment yesterday. Poor boy had to get his shots. And he did NOT like them. So sad to see him lay on the table content as can be and then within seconds, he screamed a high pitched scream I have never heard before. Luckily the nurse was quick, so I was able to pick him up and calmed him down to just a whimper. Occasionally, he would still let out a little scream to let us know that what had just happened was NOT acceptable!  It's already past noon and he has barely been up an hour today. One tired boy! Now a little bit about this sweetie:

2 month stats
Length: 24.5 inches (86th percentile)
Weight: 11 lbs 11 oz. (34th percentile)
Head circ: 40.2 cm (46th percentile)
I guess we will have a tall & skinny basketball player on our hands! And it looks like our boy will have a chance to get the Gildea height instead of the Lewis.
  • I was so set on getting a schedule down, I think I was stressing us both out too much. The last few weeks, I have just been trying to keep him happy and really listen to what he wants and I think we are both much happier.  I think that he was still too little to do a routine, so I think we are going to try again in a few weeks (that's what the doctor said is best anyway)
  • He is STILL sleeping in our room in our bassinet.  I used to think that people who kept their baby's in their room that long were crazy!  But now that it is our OWN baby, it's a little harder than I was expecting. He's just all of the way down the hall in his own room! The main reason is that we haven't bought a baby monitor partially because I'm not ready and partially because we are lazy.  I think that we are getting ready soon.
  • Over the past month he has gone from only smiling at me in the mornings, to smiling at points throughout the day, to smiling at Jordan and I throughout the day and now smiling all of the time! It sounds cheesy, but it still melts my heart every time.
  • He is starting to coo and gurgle (sometimes he sounds like a little kitty cat) all of the time now. I am obsessed with how sweet it sounds. So fun to have him start to interact
  • I have mixed feelings with him growing up. I am so sad that he is getting so big, but yet it is so exciting to see him progress and change and interact more. But still watching that video from his one month post when he was just a day old makes my heart squint a little.
  • I think he is going to be a little toe head like his daddy!  He was born with dark brown hair, but after he lost all of the hair on top, it is growing in blonde. He is a two toned baby with his dark hair on the bottom and blonde hair on the top. In pictures, it actually looks like he is bald since it is so light, but he definitely has more than peach fuzz growing in.
  • He is so strong and active. Many people comment that he is the most active baby they've ever seen! He is always looking around, kicking his legs, punching his arms. He is still when he sleeps, but that's about it.  Sometimes I pull him into bed with me in the morning. One time, I woke up to him punching me in the face. Good morning!  Also, the other day, I was dreaming Jordan was tickling me and I was just about to push him away when I realized I was just being kicked in the stomach over and over again by this little boy.
  • LOVES to be held. I might be creating a monster by holding him all of the time, but I am working on putting him down more and more. Sometimes he will let me put him in his carseat while I am close cleaning the kitchen/taking a shower/cleaning the house, etc. I can't do it for long, but it's progress!
  • Sleeps for about a 6 hour stretch between 9/10-4 and then is up every two hours (or less) than that.  He will pretty much sleep until about 11 or 11:30 each morning besides a few minutes to "play" and a few eating sessions. I have just started pulling him in bed with me to eat in the morning so I can get some sleep. He also sleeps really well on his stomach. I only let him do this for one or two naps a day, but he sleeps SO much better when he can't wake himself up with his legs and arms flailing
  • The doctor said one side of his head is getting a little more flat than the other, so I have to really baby that non flat side and make him sleep on it in order to avoid the dreaded helmet! I think it is going to be harder than I thought...
Thumbs up dude.

 Camera shy, much?

You talkin' to me?

I'm so sad this pic turned out blurry. I refer to this as his "duck face" and he makes it ALL of the time.

And a few more...

"Excuse me... I'm tipping over here."

Profile shot

Clearly his 3 minutes of being set down were up...

ALWAYS looking around for something good to look at. Like a wall, ceiling, light, ceiling fan...

Still has those frogger legs going

A few videos from the past month (mostly for the grandmas...)

Can't believe how much he has grown! This picture definitely drives that home...
