9 Months

This is such a fun age.  And I still can't believe how old he is. I refuse to believe he is growing up!  We had his 9 month doctor appointment.  I was keeping such a great eye on him, but the doctor was a bit behind so we ended up waiting over 30 minutes. Owen was of course restless, so I let him crawl around on the floor in the room while we waited.  The nurse came in later and I felt pretty awesome when we laid him onto the table and I pulled a USED BANDAID out of his mouth. I swear, I was watching him the entire time. He is a sneaky little bug.

His 9 month stats are:
Height: 28 inches (25-50%tile)
Weight: 17 lbs 3 oz (5-10%tile)
Head Circ: 44.7 cm (25-50%)

I don't really get why they have such broad percentiles.  He is our skinny little bug. Although, at this appointment, he had been sick for over a week, so he hadn't been eating great. And if you spend 5 minutes with Owen, you understand why he is so skinny. He NEVER stops moving.

Some things about Owen at 9 months:
  • Nicknames: O, Owie, Bubbie, Bubba, Little Bug
  • Favorite Foods: Sweet potatoes, brown rice, anything we are eating
  • Words: Mama, Dada, Hi, Bye. Makes the sound baaaa baaa baaaa baaaa over and over again
  • Loves to crawl and get into everything. Stands and walks along the edges of furniture.  Loves to make messes and destroy. His favorites are knocking all of the DVDs off of the shelf and playing with things in the dishwasher.
  • Loves the toilet. As soon as he gets sight of it, he crawls as fast as he can right over to it and pulls himself up to it. So gross.
  • Loves when it hits about 5:20 and daddy comes home.  He knows the sound of the door unlocking and he freezes and watches towards the stairs.  Jordan told me the other day that it is his favorite part of the day. I love that they are becoming little buddies.
  • Waves hello and bye bye.  And loves to shake his head no. We think it is pretty stinking cute right now, but I have a feeling that will be short lived.
  • Still an awful sleeper. Just as we were getting back onto a schedule, he got an awful cold with a fever and a cough.  We are slowwwwwwllly getting back to where we were. Someday I will sleep through the night again!
  • Has started doing an excited squeal.  Usually followed by a super cheesy smile and laugh
  • Loves to go on walks in his stroller and be outside.  He could sit in that thing for hours as long as there is plenty to look at!  Loves looking out the windows.
  • Likes to sit in his big boy booster and feed himself. Unless he runs out of food... then he is not a happy boy!  Also loves to drink water out of his sippy cup.  And as soon as he is done, throws it over the edge.
  • Getting to the point where he is starting to hate his car seat. Which makes going anywhere a challenge.
  • Sometimes likes baths and other times he screams the entire time.  But no question, he HATES showers. He cries the entire time. Wrestling a screaming, slippery baby in the shower is a challenge!
  • Some day he will grow some hair other than in the back and right on top. For now, he is our little baldie.

Loves his books.

Always trying to escape

Madder hatter.

Look at those little puppy eyes - hold me mama

Happy boy

Again trying to escape. Getting these pictures in the chair was a major challenge

So we had to move to the floor :)

Cheeser

Loves our cell phones. But really just likes putting our cell phones in his mouth

Loves his cookie dog

Even after he got his tongue clipped, he is still our little heart tongued baby

Love those lips.

Scrunch face. Anytime you blow or suck air through your nose, he makes this face.

 Nakie bum.

Get me out of here! It's not nap time!

Our Weekend

We had a pretty good weekend. Plus, I got a new camera last week, so I was a bit snap happy :)

Friday night, Jordan's company rented out a theater for the Hunger Games. I was so very excited to see it and it did not disappoint!  I was very surprised that Jordan even liked it... and I think he is ready to read the books!  We left Owen behind with his very first non-family babysitter (a friend in the ward).  I was a nervous nelly the whole time. But when we went to pick him up, he was fast asleep. And in a deep enough sleep that we were able to transfer him from his car seat to crib for the first time ever.

On Saturday, we:
Scouted out a craft fair to see if it is something we want to do with pinned pretty

Crawled all around the house and got into everything possible.

Went to dinner with our friends the Vissers at Thaiphoon.  Owen tried a lemon and "enjoyed it"

Checked out the new City Creek Mall in Salt Lake.  Owen was a bit awestruck (but who wasn't??)

Stopped to watch the fountain show at City Creek.

On Sunday, we went for a walk and stopped out our neighborhood park.  Owen had a fun time going down the slide.

Although his emotions don't really show it.

And we made some funny faces too.

Played in the tubes. Although most of his time was spent crawling to get out. We are good parents, so we forced him into the middle so he was forced to explore at least a little bit.

He liked the toys alright, but his favorite part was just getting to stand on his own!

And getting thrown high into the air by dad.

8 Months

I am so behind on this, but better late than never!

I feel like there were SO many changes this past month.  From month to month before, there were small and simple changes, but this month, he is a whole new baby (if you want to call him that...). When I look back at pictures, I hardly recognize him! I still miss him being so little, but he is just so fun now!

  • Nicknames: Bubba, Destructo, Owie,
  • Size 3 diaper, 6-12 month clothes (they finally fit!)
  • Favorite foods: sweet potatoes, brown rice, cheerios, anything we are eating.  If we are eating something he is not, he will WHINE until we put some in his mouth.
  • Crawling everywhere.  He picked it up so fast. He went from rocking on his knees to full on speed crawling in what seemed like a week or two.  I think he loves the independence of exploring the house.
  • Can pull himself up on things. Mostly his crib (which is super annoying :)
  • He is an AWFUL SLEEPER.  I am so frustrated because we did the whole crying it out thing. And then between his 6 month shots and Christmas, he was so thrown off. And then throw teething into the mix, and it was a mess! The frustrating thing is that he goes to sleep initially on his own. But he has been waking up at about 11 and about 4 every night!  And he literally will not stop SCREAMING until I nurse him.  So now that his teeth have broken through, we are back to crying it out. I hate it!
  • He is freakishly strong and wiggly.  And people definitely realize it when they hold him.  He just spins around, tries to grab at everything and anything.  I know this should technically be on this 9 month post, but today? He jumped out of his exersaucer!  I could hear him moving around in it, but didn't think anything of it. And then THUD.  I expected him to start screaming, but I ran over there and he was just playing contently with a toy.  I swear I am raising a little baby Hercules.
  • He is a bit of a bully.  When he wants something, he will do whatever he needs to do to get it.  So if there is something just out of his reach and I am holding him, he will yank my hair for just the right amount of leverage to get over to what he wants.  Also loves to scratch and pinch!  He especially loves to pinch my lips. Ouchie.
  • He is actually starting to be a bit more cuddly.  One day, he laid his head on my shoulder and fell asleep. My heart nearly burst.
  • Starting to mimic things a bit more.  He loves to hang out his tongue at me and make a squishy kissy face. I would get it on camera, but literally the second I pull it out, he is deer in headlights.
  • He is just the funniest little boy and we love him! He is always making us laugh.

Apparently he's a big boy who sits on his knees (No, you are not Owen! Stop growing up!)

Stranger danger face.

Cute little bubba

Hi.
(No, he doesn't wave yet - just a freak accident)

Ok, I'm bored. See ya later!

Still loves books!

Standing for real

Oh man, I love that face.

The many faces of Owen at 8 months

Blooper face! (Also, he looks like Jordan)

This is why he doesn't sleep!  He just stands and WAIIIIILLLLLS in his crib.
