Lights Out!

Over the Christmas break (sorry, I forgot that I had so much to post about from then!), we decided to go to dinner. My mom was really craving this Mexican Restaurant near Fresno, which is about 45 minutes away. So we loaded up the kids (Nat and Ben were on a cruise so we had Gabe and Laine) and drove up.

It wasn't long after we were seated that the lights completely shut off. Completely. There were absolutely no windows so it was really dark. I don't know if this was a common occurrence for this restaurant or if they just happened to have the stuff on hand, but they soon brought out candles to put on the tables so we could somewhat see. Some people just kept eating as if the lights had never even gone out.

I took this picture of Laine right after it happened. This picture was taken in the dark, so she had no idea it was coming. I love the terror on her face.

This is Katie's "What do we do?" face. We hadn't ordered our food yet and the waitress kept coming by our table and asking us if we wanted to order. Yes, there were still people ordering food and expecting the cooks to prepare their food in the dark. Scary!

I guess Gabe decided he couldn't see anyway, so he just kept his eyes closed.

I thought this picture was so cute of my mom and Laine. Notice Laine's Santa hat and the "glubs" (gloves). She refused to take either off and would freak out every time we tried. Also notice that the glubs are way too big seeing as they were mine. Yes, eating was a little difficult for her.

We finally decided to pack up the kids and head down to a little food shack (literally) called Chiquitos. You would not believe how much Gabe ate. He LOVED his food.

He loved these chips. Look at those little chicklet teeth.

When Gabe couldn't get to the rest of the food that was in the rest of the food container (aka, the hotdog holder), he decided that he would just pick up the carton to get every last morsel. He did this all on his own. That kid is an EATER.

This is how it typically goes with Laine. When I try to give her a kiss, she usually says, "No kisses!" and shoves me away. She is her mother's daughter and will do anything for a sweet:

Amazing how she suddenly wants to be my best friend once I can bring something to the table. Once again, notice the glubs and hat.

I forgot all about that adventure. I did not realize you took so many pictures to capture it! It was fun looking at them and remembering that night. What Kristine did not mention was that we drove 1/2 hour away just for my crave! Then to have the lights go out was the worst. We ate chips and salsa and water though so we were all a little full by the time we left, so off to our favorite dive that really does have good food. Thanks everyone for being such good sports about the whole thing!

Gotta love Chiquitos! It is the best chile verde under $2. That is crazy people were still putting their orders in with the power out. How were they going to cook the food with no electricity?

Gotta love that girl! She is so 110% herself. I love that pic of Gabe, he looks like an old man, complete with receding hairline. That was fun to see what you guys were up to.

What a fun adventure. When stuff like that happens you are like "is this really happening!" Especially when you make such an effort to get there. The kids are so lucky to have such fun aunts and grandparents!
