Memorial Day Weekend

Last weekend we were able to go on a short getaway for Memorial Day weekend. We decided to go down to Las Vegas to see a show and spend a couple of nights down there. The plan from the beginning was to take Owen with us, but then we started toying with the idea to leave him with my parents.  I was so nervous to leave him since the longest I had left him before was about 4 hours.  I started thinking about taking Owen with us and it just sounded dreadful. He is used to falling asleep in his room by himself so sharing a hotel room with him wasn't ideal.  He also takes two two hour naps each day, so our entire day would be revolved around that.  Not to mention the strip isn't exactly a baby friendly place.  But I just couldn't commit either way.  I told myself I wouldn't make up my mind until I absolutely had to.  As soon as we met up with my parents, I made the decision to leave him and then we had to jump in the car and leave before I changed my mind!  I wasn't worried about Owen since I knew my parents would take great care of him.  I was more worried that something would happen to us!

Making the decision to leave him a bit easier on the way down...

Playing on my phone kept him entertained for about 2.5 seconds.

We got down to Vegas a little later than planned since we were half way there from my parents and realized that we had forgotten to give them Owen's suitcase. They realized that when they had given him a bath and had nothing to dress him in! So we had to turn around and meet my dad halfway to drop that off. By the time we got to our hotel, we were exhausted!  Jordan is not used to sleeping in, so when he woke up before 9 the next morning, I was ticked!  I don't get a lot of uninterrupted sleep so I take it very seriously when I do.  We spent the day walking a little bit on the strip and swimming at the pool.  That night we met up with some friends, the Grays for dinner and then headed to see the Cirque de Soleil show, LOVE.  Of course there were approximately one billion people in Vegas that weekend, so traffic was a nightmare and we took a few wrong turns making us a little late.  We barely missed the beginning of the show and had to wait 5 minutes for a transition time to be able to go in.  The show was amazing and Jordan is already trying to get anyone on board he can to go to another show soon.  That night we walked the strip a little more. I don't love to gamble or do any of the typical Vegas activities, but I LOVE to walk around and look at the casinos.

Getting our tickets in the morning for LOVE. The only picture I got at the show.  I figured we would get pictures before and after, but since we were late, we didn't get any before.  Then after the show it was a sea of people so trying to get a picture was too much of a chore.

Touring the Venetian

The next morning we went to a few more hotels.  I hadn't done the whole Vegas strip thing for a few years, so I hadn't seen a few of the new hotels at all. Jordan and I both agreed that our top 3 are the Wynn, the Cosmopolitan and the Bellagio.

I was so looking forward to seeing Owen again.  It killed me that we got back when my parents were at church and that I had to wait around to see him.  I imagined reuniting over and over again in my mind and how excited we would both be to see each other. Haha, yeah right!  He was a little over tired since he missed his nap, but he came to me and then immediately started reaching for my mom. Not exactly the reunion I was hoping for!  He eventually warmed back up to me and I think he was just trying to teach me a lesson to not leave him again.

The next day we woke up and headed over to Hurricane to go to the pool!  This was Owen's first real time swimming since he was a little baby last summer.  It was close to nap time and he was NOT A FAN.  When I got in, he was all about giving me cuddles - which is a rare thing, so I soaked it all in.

Save me mama!

We ended our trip with a little dinner at Texas Roadhouse before we headed home.

It was such a nice weekend to be able to get away and relax a bit. It was definitely hard to come back to real life! A huge thank you again to my parents for being willing to watch Owen.  Especially since he isn't a great sleeper and insisted on playing Peter Pan and being awake for a few hours in the middle of the night playing with his shadow

It was so fun having him! It was good for me to have the opportunity to remember what it's like to be a mom of a young one! I loved every minute!
